CNC Machining Services
Bern Engineering specializes in complex, tight-tolerance components in low quantities: prototypes, development hardware, and short production runs where the tolerance matters more than the volume.
Close-tolerance prototypes
One-off and development parts machined to tight tolerances, with DFM feedback before metal is cut. We’re comfortable living in the tenths, so tight callouts are everyday work here, not a stretch.
Low-volume production
Short runs with proven programs and fixturing, so repeat orders come back identical.
Complex surfaces
Modern design requires modern programming. More and more engineers are using SolidWorks features like lofts and blends to create complex, freeform surfaces, and surfacing is second nature to us. Send the model as designed; we have no problem producing these surfaces.
4-axis milling
Full rotary 4th-axis work for parts with features on multiple sides, completed in fewer setups.
CNC programming
In-house Mastercam programming, with toolpaths verified before the part hits the machine.
Quick turn
Typical lead time of 1–4 weeks for prototypes; expedites available.

Outside Processes
We work closely with a proven network of qualified vendors, so you get complete, ready-to-use parts with finishing, heat treat, EDM, grinding, and other secondary processes handled for you. Parts ship with a standard machined finish unless otherwise specified.
Finishes we regularly source, with masking available on all of them:
Anodize, all types: MIL-PRF-8625 Type I, II, and III (hardcoat)
Chem film: MIL-DTL-5541 Type I and II
Tiodize (titanium anodize): AMS 2488
Paint and primer: to your spec (e.g., MIL-PRF-23377 primer, MIL-PRF-85285 topcoat)
Black oxide: MIL-DTL-13924
Need a process or finish not listed? Call it out on your RFQ and we’ll source a qualified vendor for it.
